Gillingham Area Car Link
Objective: To establish a network of volunteers to provide car
transport for local residents who might otherwise be housebound.
Campaign Status: Active, Operational
The Gillingham Area Car Link is up and running and the contact phone number is 07599 311443.
Background:
The Gillingham Seniors Forum (GSF) represents Pensioners living in Gillingham
and the surrounding area. After consulting our members we have identified
transport as a very real problem for people in this area.
People without their own transport are isolated and unable to visit friends or
live a normal life because they cannot afford the cost of taxis. People with
disabilities are housebound because there is no accessible public transport. A
hospital visit by taxi can cost up to £85 for the round trip. Even a visit to
the GP costs over £4.
Users of the scheme will be given a donation envelope by the Driver to donate
what they can afford. Voluntary Drivers use their own cars; they will be paid a
mileage fee. All drivers will be CRB checked.
The chairman is Mr Robert Harvey. The organisation is applying for Charity status. More volunteers from the SP8 area are needed: our support officer is. Mrs D
Stuckey 01747 821737.
northdorset.net will provide non-judgemental
campaign-space for individuals or groups who want to assess or elicit support for
specific objectives.
