Gillingham Leisure Centre Plans

add to/ improve this page | home

In September 2007 The Three Rivers Partnership set out their plans for the development of leisure and community facilities in Gillingham at an Expo at Gillingham Town Hall.

The objectives of the event and the trustees' views on the feedback received were summarised here.

In the intervening months the Partnership has developed an exciting design concept, based on restructuring and extending the current buildings. They believe that all the elements the public want can be provided within a realistic and affordable budget.

The support of all our local towns and parishes continues to be vital: the final go-ahead will rest on the decisions made by Town and Parish councillors to support future funding via the precept (about 25p a week per household at Band D average).

AGM  Invitation

Mark Hebditch, Chairman of the Three Rivers Partnership invites local organisations and individuals to the Three Rivers 2008 AGM:

"You are invited to attend the AGM at Gillingham Primary School on Tuesday 24 June 2008 at 7 pm.

The AGM will be open to the public, so do encourage your friends and neighbours to come along, see the exhibitions and hear the latest information. Only members are entitled to vote, but it will be possible to join Three Rivers Community Partnership on the night. (Membership costs £1.)

Community Leisure Centre & Hall
So far so good is our message on this all-important project. The Planning Application has been submitted and we have met the first set of conditions laid down by North Dorset District Council before they will release the funding we need to begin building work. Yes, it’s true there are more conditions yet to be met but it’s a useful start and we are still on time for a re-opening in autumn 2009.

By the way ….
The new community hall and leisure centre will be rebuilt in Gillingham but that’s just geography. This is a facility for everyone in our bit of North Dorset, South Somerset & South Wiltshire. More Three Counties than just Three Rivers …...

The support of all our local towns and parishes continues to be vital: the final go-ahead will rest on the decisions made by Town and Parish councillors to support future funding via the precept (about 25p a week per household at Band D average).

We all want a healthy lifestyle at a cost that’s within our means. With support from local residents, wherever we live, the more affordable sports and socialising will be for everyone from Mere to Marnhull."
