Fairtrade in North Dorset

 Fairtrade Shaftesbury

For some months a group chaired by Arthur Simmonds has been promoting Fairtrade in Shaftesbury.

The Fairtrade Mark is an independent consumer label which appears on products as an independent guarantee that disadvantaged producers in the developing world are getting a better deal.

The Shaftesbury group have been encouraging local people, businesses and organisations to pledge to use and support Fairtrade goods, and will be listing retail outlets in Shaftesbury which sell Fairtrade goods in a promotional leaflet for the project.

With the support of Shaftesbury Town Council, the group will be applying for Shaftesbury to be recognised as a Fairtrade Town, joining 269 other UK towns that have so far achieved this status (the closest of which is Wimborne Minster).
